Reuse actions with My clipboard
Quiz question
What do you check after pasting from My clipboard?
Solution
- A) The licenses of everyone who uses the flowWrong. Copying and pasting does not change any license. It is about the settings of the pasted actions.
- B) Whether the Scope was deleted in the old flowWrong. Copying leaves the Scope in the old flow unchanged. Both flows keep their actions.
- C) Connections and dynamic content from the old flowCorrect. Connections are not copied, and references to actions of the old flow do not resolve in the new one.
What it is about
Some blocks show up in almost every flow: a notification, a log entry, an error message. Instead of clicking them together again each time, you put the actions in a Scope and choose Copy to my clipboard from the Scope's menu. In the next flow you find the block in the action picker under My clipboard and paste it with all its settings. Afterwards you check two things: connections are not copied, so you reconnect the actions. And dynamic content that pointed to the trigger or earlier actions of the old flow needs to be mapped again. My clipboard is tied to your browser. For building blocks a whole team uses, a child flow is the better choice.
When to use it, when not
Use it
For blocks you build again and again yourself, such as an error message or a log entry.
Better not
For building blocks that several people should use. My clipboard is tied to your browser, a child flow fits better here.
Most common mistake
Running the pasted block without resetting the references to the trigger and earlier actions.
License
Standard Runs without a premium connector, so the license from Microsoft 365 is enough. Source on Microsoft Learn: Power Automate licensing FAQ. For your whole flow: License check.
